The primary exercise in any irrigation system is to get enough water to operate the last sprinkler on the longest line. This assures that the system works properly providing more beauty with less water in your landscape. Remember, you cannot come back at a later date and add more water or increase the pressure to the system. Therefore, leave yourself a generous margin of error in your design. Root zones of different plants are of different sizes and depth. Hence, zone plants of like water requirements on the same system and you will use less water overall. Citrus trees and potted plants are obvious examples of this. So, determine the future size of mature root zones. What are their water requirements? Often, multiple valves are required to build the most efficient system. With the proper design, you will achieve more beauty with less water and a lower monthly bill.
